Aabaraki exemplifies neo-soul at its best with tight songs that tease out the genre’s natural kinship with funk and hip-hop. A sparse arsenal of bass, keyboards, drums, and guitar give listeners plenty of room to enter into the groove, which carries everything from funky (and unlikely) covers of John Lennon and Bob Dylan to irreverent originals sung by frontman Akie Bermiss.
