Marilyn Maye
Presents
"Her Own Kind Of Broadway"
When Marilyn Maye was under contract with RCA she was the first to record Broadwaysongs such as, Cabaret, Step to the Rear, Sherry, I'll Never Fall in Love Again and other Broadway show songs, before the shows opened. Her recordings received a great deal of air play at WNEW and stations throughout the country.
Cabaret became an instant hit for Marilyn as did Sherry and when the shows opened the songs Marilyn had recorded were familiar to the audiences. When Marilyn recorded Step to the Rear (from How Now Dow Jones) she was chosen to record that song as the national Lincoln Mercury commercial for more than three years. During her longtime career Ms. Maye has portrayed Mame (in Mame), Dolly (in Hello, Dolly), Sally (in Follies), Carlotta (in Follies) and Pistache (in Can Can).
New York Times, Stephen Holden, March 2010. ~ "Ms. Maye is not one to dawdle or to mope. She stands at elbows length from a song, taking it's full measure, projecting empathy while never getting lost in it. Her philosophy: Tell the truth, but stay in charge."
Curtain Up, Elizabeth Ahlfors, March 2010. "She has innate timing and jazz kick that takes the musical statements into fresh directions. Maye is the hostess of the hottest party in town and you're the special guest. You've been entertained, touched and exhilarated".
Broadway After Dark, Sandi Durell, March, 2010. ~ "She fills an endless ocean with the depth of her abilities, her faultless interpretations and fills our hearts and souls with the beauty of music from the greatest song writers".
Palm Beach Daily News, David A. Frye, March, 2010. ~ "Maye makes every song her ownin a polished delivery that appears effortless. She drives home every heartfelt note and leaves her audiences grinning from ear to ear".
Wall Street Journal, Will Friedwald, March 2010 " At a Marilyn Maye performance, on one side of the room are the Broadway and cabaret people, who tend to like their singing big, theatrical, with a lot of drama and stage presence. On the other side is the jazz crowd, who want everything hip, cool and understated. Ms. Maye is the only pop-song diva today who can satisfy both crowds at once".
Whichever side of the room the audience chooses for a Marilyn Maye performance they'll feel as though they are hearing their favorite Broadway Show songs for the first time.
