Explore using paper as a printing medium to create small variable editions for mixed media drawings or artist book projects with several innovative techniques. Participants will also learn image transfer techniques using mulberry paper (kozo) as "carbon paper" for transferring images using ink, gesso, and methyl cellulose/acrylic paint that results in two or three versions of one image from one "paper press run."
Bring 5 - 10 magazine images and/or 8 1/2" x 11" copies of photos (simple imagery works best - the figure, a face, animals, simple still life), various drawing tools (woodless pencils in 6B, 9B, a stylus). With Rory Golden. Rory teaches workshops at the Center for Book Arts in NYC, which he directed from 2000 - 2004, the San Francisco Center for the Book, the Long Beach Museum of Art and numerous colleges and universities around the country. Recent solo exhibitions include the New York Public Library Donnell Library Center and The National Museum of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender History. His multi-media project See Related Story - The Murder of J.R. Warren opened at Fairmont State University, Fairmont, WV in February with a national tour commencing later this year. He holds an MFA in Book Arts from the University of Alabama and has been an artist in residence most recently at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and Yaddo.
