Did you know that It is estimated that up to 10 million children witness domestic violence each year in the United States?   In New Jersey, children were involved or present during 31% of all domestic violence offenses (73,709) in 2009. Specifically, 4% were involved and 27% were present. (NJ Uniform Crime Report)

Children exposed to domestic violence will often develop emotional, physical, and behavioral problems that impede their development in school and in life. Early assessment and intervention can enhance a child’s well-being and heal from the trauma they have endured.

(This session is part of the  Intimate Partner Violence Advocate (IPVA) Certification Program - a five-part series that is endorsed by New Jersey Division on Women (DOW) Up to 22 CEU's can be earned by attaining this certification)

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
Explain how domestic violence affects children
Engage the child at different developmental stages
Implement protocols for safe intervention (includes safety plans)
Effectively engage the non-offending parent
Identify local resources for information and support
Who should attend?
