Domestic Violence 101

So you think you know all about Domestic Violence (DV). . .think again!    
Research shows that one out of four women is being abused by a spouse or intimate partner, 1 out of 3 teenage girls is being abused by her boyfriend, and 37% of all women who seek care for violence related injuries are injured by a current or former spouse or boyfriend. (Family Violence Prevention Fund)
Nurses, social workers, teachers, employers and family workers are on the “front lines” of response and therefore can play a critical role in helping a victim evolve into a survivor.  
 
(This session is part of the  Intimate Partner Violence Advocate (IPVA) Certification Program - a five-part series that is endorsed by New Jersey Division on Women (DOW) Up to 22 CEU's can be earned by attaining this certification)
 
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:
Understand the dynamics of domestic violence including power and control
Provide safe and effective intervention to victims and their families
Identify myths and facts, cultural issues, and legal issues
Develop a safety plan
Identify resources for information and support
Who should attend?
School administrators, faculty, staff, day-care staff, childcare workers, social workers, nurses and anyone working in family services.
