Come and get a deeper understanding of the victim’s experience and behavior. Using a psycho-educational approach, participants are provided more time to thoroughly discuss response and counseling strategies.
Additional theories of domestic violence are explored (e.g. : Mental Illness, Loss of Control, Learned Helplessness, etc.). Plus, participants will look at the Violence Against Women’s Act (Vawa) and the importance of Cultural Competence when working with victim/survivors.
(This session is part of the Intimate Partner Violence Advocate (Ipva) Certification Program - a five-part series that is endorsed by New Jersey Division on Women (DOW) Up to 22 CEU's can be earned by attaining this certification)
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to: *
• Identify the types of abuse and state at least two theories related to domestic violence • Define the emotional and behavioral impact abuse has on a victim • Understand the meaning of empowerment to a victim • List important information every victim needs • Formulate a safety plan • Identify resources for support
(* Important: Domestic Violence 101 is a pre-requisite for this class. All five classes are required for the Ipva Certificate.)

School administrators, faculty, staff, day-care staff, childcare workers, social workers, nurses and anyone working in family services.
